12 Best Bakeries in Stockholm You Need to Try

Stockholm is a haven for bakery enthusiasts such as myself! Ever since moving to Germany 7 years ago, I have utterly fallen in love with bread, baked treats, and croissants. I love starting my mornings with an espresso and a baked treat, especially while I am traveling. One of my all-time favorite baked treats is a cardamom bun. In a city like Stockholm, there is no shortage of wonderful options! Every morning, there is a new delicious Stockholm bakery to discover.

Stockholm has delightful bakeries offering an array of baked treats from cardamom buns to perfectly crafted pastries.

I work as a trip leader and tour guide in Scandinavia, so I visit Sweden frequently. I am on a hunt to find the best bakeries in Stockholm. Stockholm’s bakers take pride in quality ingredients, artisanal techniques, and cozy atmospheres that encourage you to sit back and enjoy a "fika," the beloved Swedish coffee break. These are my favorite Stockholm bakeries that I have tried so far. If you prefer video content, you can also find this Stockholm bakery series on my TikTok. I will also provide you a recommendation of what to order at each bakery.

12 Best Bakeries in Stockholm You Need to Try

Vete Katten

What You're Ordering: cinnamon or walnut knotted bun

One of Stockholm’s oldest (and most beloved) bakeries is Vete-Katten. You’ll find locations throughout the city, including the train station! Translated as the wheat cat, I am obsessed with this cute bakery chain. In the Norrmalm location, they even have cat sculptures in the window, all made of wheat! Knotted buns are the specialty here, and you’ll find them in a variety of flavors such as cinnamon or cardamom. They are generously sprinkled with thick sugar. Perfect for dipping in tea or coffee, their cafes are usually spacious with generous seating options.

Lillebrors Bageri

What You're Ordering: cardamom bun

Tucked away in the Vasastan district, Lillebrors Bageri is rumored to have the best cardamom bun in Stockholm. I knew I had to visit this slightly out of the way spot. Their freshly baked cardamom buns are often sold out by the afternoon, so it’s best to arrive early. Inside the cozy bakery feels like a whimsical cottage built by Keebler Elves, complete with a wood wrapped counter and shingled stand. On the day I went, my particular cardamom bun was quite underbaked and far too doughy. I chalk it up to bad luck, and I would definitely try it again. The flavor was great, and the overall atmosphere here is just lovely.

S:T Paul Bageri

What You're Ordering: one of their sandwiches

The bakery offers an impressive selection of fresh breads, pastries, and sandwiches. It is something of a neighborhood staple with a few locations around Stockholm. You’ll find plenty of locals chatting over Fika or even working on their laptops. Their cafes usually have an industrial chic vibe with marble accents and black accent lighting. I didn’t find their cardamom buns to be particularly memorable, because the texture was a bit dry and too thick. Their coffee is great though!

Skeppsbro Bageri

What You're Ordering: cardamom bun

If you can try only one baked treat while in Stockholm, then it needs to be the cardamom bun from Skeppsbro Bageri. It was genuinely the best cardamom bun I've ever had. With a perfect peppery & sweet flavor, the texture of the cardamom bun is pillowy and soft, but still easy to pull apart. A delightful cinnamon-hinted sugar topping is sprinkled on top. Located on the waterfront of Gamla Stan, the location couldn’t be better. Snag a table outside to enjoy the waterside views. Beware of the seagulls who are known to steal baked treats right off your plate!

Stora Bageriet

What You're Ordering: cardamom or cinnamon bun

Stora Bageriet (literally “the big bakery”) is a love letter to bread, pastry, and the art of simplicity. Housed in Stockholm’s oldest industrial bakery, this spot has been reborn with care and craftsmanship. This is one of the most hyped bakeries in Stockholm, so there is typically a line. I went once within minutes of opening and still found people waiting! You can also taste that they’ve elevated humble baked goods with thoughtful presentation and curated ingredients. The vibe is warm, bright, and lots of outdoor seating.

Konditori Genuin

What You're Ordering: vegan pastries

Nestled in the heart of Kungsholmen, Konditori Genuin is a bit of a hidden gem. This cozy, family-run bakery specializes in organic, stone-baked breads, pastries, and cakes made from scratch using locally sourced, eco-friendly ingredients. Their offerings include a variety of vegan options, such as breakfast sandwiches with house-made hummus and energy bars featuring oats, coconut, and cranberries.

Socker Sucker

What You're Ordering: cube croissant in whatever flavor is available

A rising star on the Stockholm bakery scene, Socker Sucker is known for its playful, innovative flavors and techniques. This is more of patisserie, so the price is slightly here and the presentation is really elevated. But don't worry. More than just a trend, this place is legit! Croissants are the specialty here—including shaped croissants– and they shouldn’t be missed! On my visit, I had a tiramisu square croissant that was one of the best things I've eaten in Stockholm. The puff pastry was flaky yet crispy, while the filling was rich yet light. How do they do it?!?

Svedjan Bageri

What You're Ordering: whatever savory or seasonal item is available

Recommended to me by my followers on Instagram, I am SO glad that I visited this bakery on my recent trip in Stockholm. It is slightly off the beaten path near the Zinkensdamm metro stop, but it is well worth seeking out. Their cardamom bun is my second favorite I have had in Stockholm. More than that, Svedjan is one of the few bakeries that has savory options. I had a fantastic pesto bechamel swirl that I am still dreaming about. The cafe is large with lots of seating.

Krümel Cookies & Crumbs

What You're Ordering: one of the chocolate cookies

In Stockholm, the cookie trend is just starting to peak. I often struggle to find bakeries that specialize in cookies. They don’t have the same prestige as croissants or sourdoughs, so many bakeries treat cookies as a throwaway. Not at Krümel Cookies & Crumbs though! Known for its chewy, flavorful (dare I say, American style) cookies, Krümel offers everything from classic chocolate chip to creative seasonal options like tahini with earl gray macerated cherries. Don’t miss their signature sea salt dark chocolate chip cookie. It’s simple, yet utterly divine.

Café & Bageri Pascal

What You're Ordering: Whatever seasonal option is available

Tucked in the middle of a pedestrian shopping street in the Katarina-Sofia neighborhood of Södermalm, Cafe & Bageri Pascal has my favorite espresso in Stockholm. The espresso blend is grassy and smooth, offering the perfect taste and mouthfeel. But more than a coffee shops, the pastry case is full of classics like croissants and cardamom buns, but also seasonal items like a plum & custard puff pastry. The staff is friendly and not snobbish, a rarity at some of the coffee shops in Södermalm.

Fabrique

What You're Ordering: Sourdough loaf or bun

With locations scattered around the city, Fabrique is known for its rustic atmosphere and superior sourdough bread. As soon as you step inside this artisanal bakery, you are greeted by the comforting aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries. The star of the show here is their renowned sourdough bread, crafted with time-honored techniques and using high-quality ingredients. With its crusty exterior and soft, flavorful interior, the sourdough is an absolute treat. Fabrique has expanded A LOT in recent years, so there are locations all around Stockholm (and Europe more generally).

Paulinas Kök & Bakeri

One of the newer bakeries in Stockholm to open is Paulina’s. Part general store, part cafe, this place is charming. I found their assortment of baked items to be different than most that you see in Stockholm. Plus they serve brunch and hot food. This feels like a place built for locals to hang out and relax with lots of weekly events and pop-up sales. Their cardamom bun wasn’t my favorite I’ve ever had (it was a little thick), but I really loved the nut tartlet. Pick up a little handmade souvenir while you’re in the shop. They’ve got a great selection of handmade items like pottery and crafts.
